We know that individuals who learn differently, think differently, and we strongly believe that with their unique experiences, insights, and journeys, our fellows hold a valuable vantage point that can inform policy.

OUR MISSION

Give students a voice.

The Mission of the Diverse Learners Coalition (DLC) is to give students a voice by empowering the next generation of young people with diverse learning profiles to inspire policy change.

DLC provides Legislative Fellowships to young people between the ages of 16 and 24 with learning differences (LD). Our funding enables them to pursue paid internships in the offices of policymakers to work on issues that affect people with LD.

why we do it.

We know that individuals who learn differently, think differently, we strongly believe that with their unique experiences, insights, and journeys, our fellows hold a valuable vantage point that can inform and advocate for policy.

However, students with disabilities comprise 20% of the general population, yet they are vastly overrepresented in those who are unemployed, rely on government assistance, and find themselves in the criminal justice system.

Neurodiverse learners are often stigmatized, however when given the chance they prove to be some of the greatest contributors to world progress like Governor Newsom, Charles Schwab, and Richard Branson. Many individuals with diverse learning profiles do not pursue career opportunities because they are perceived as incapable or do not have the self-esteem to pursue these opportunities

The Diverse Learners Coalition seeks to empower young people with diverse learning profiles to have a seat at the legislative table to  change policies that affect outcomes of people with diverse learning profiles.
